My Teammate's Cellphone

Have you heard of a company called "Gigabyte". It is actually a computer motherboard manufacturer. My teammate got a cellphone of this Company. It is an awesome phone with some really interesting features. You definitely expect these features if you paid 15 Grands for a device.
Lets see some of salient features of the phone:

• An Awesome 5 Megapixel auto-focus camera with super Bright Flash, But if you try to start the camera, phone restarts.
• A dedicated button to start the screen-saver.
• To snooze the alarm you need to solve an arithmetic question(like 84 x 72) and if you enter wrong answer it throws more difficult question simultaneously increasing the alarm volume.
• It has dual keypad, but exactly identical, like if one is damaged you can use other one.
• Maps with live information or traffic, restaurants and entertainment info, but only of Taiwan.
• lots of interesting stuff, but no English support, only in Chinese.
• Very BIG battery, you can use it continuously for 3 hours ;-).
• A pedometer(count foot steps) but it works only if you are sitting.
• To recharge the phone you need to pull out the battery and push it into the charger.
• You need a belt cover to carry it, not possible to fit in the pocket.
• And last (but not the least) it has a nice stylus, but there is no holder to fit in the phone. you need to carry it separately.

Its really cool, hai naa...

Iphone 3G 199$

Steve Jobs has unveiled Apple's second-generation iPhone at the company's Worldwide Developer Conference.

Jobs claims that 56% of people claim the price of the first device prevented them from buying, so the new 8GB version of the new iPhone 3G will now cost only $199, with the 16GB version priced at $299. The device will go on sale from 11 July 2008.

Apple says the battery life of the device has been improved, now offering up to 300 hours on standby, 10 hours talktime (five hours on a 3G connection) and up to six hours of web browsing.

The device also includes built-in GPS for the first time, allowing Apple to introduce a new range of location-based services to the handset.

The new iPhone platform will offer full Exchange synchronisation, with push email, calendars, contacts, auto-discovery, global address lookup, and the ability to remotely wipe data from the device.

Jobs claims 35% of the Fortune 500 companies have been running a beta of the new enterprise platform. "Everything they told us they wanted, we built in," he claims.

The new iPhone software will also have full support for iWork and Microsoft Office documents - although whether that includes the new OOXML files from Office 2007 isn't clear.

Jobs says the new iPhone software will be available in July, and will be free to all iPhone owners and $9.95 for iPod Touch owners.

Xobni For Outlook Is Here To Deal With Your Messy Inbox

For all the Microsoft Outlook users out there: the solution to all your inbox frustrations is here! Xobni announced today the availability of an add-on for Outlook that organizes emails by relationships, to save users time and help them find exactly what they’re looking for in what sometimes can be a messy inbox.

After two years of development and seven months of invite-only beta testing since September 2007, Xobni is now available for download here. The add-on will be displayed as a sidebar in Outlook and is said to organize emails the same way our brain normally would, by analyzing the way we interact with contacts and the files that have been exchanged, the company unveiled.

Matt Brezina, co-founder of Xobni, said: “Xobni analyzes mountains of data and shows you what matters – your relationships, your communication habits, context around messages – information trapped in email that is often lost or forgotten.”

Xobni developers have been working hard on their latest creation by relying on users’ feedback over the past months (over 50,000 users have participated in the beta testing). “We will continue to work hard to improve Xobni experience,” Matt Brezina said in a blog. “Xobni has done a lot to improve our users’ email lives, but email and personal information still have a long way to go.”

Although widely available, Xobni will remain beta to better respond to user feedback, its developers unveiled, saying it’s better to wait: “a true beta is an idea rarely visited in what’s become a development culture obsessed with launching as quickly as possible, sometimes without consideration of the product’s future.”

Xnobi will not stop at Microsoft Outlook, as future plans include web mail services, such as Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo Mail. In a world where communication over the Internet has become an everyday habbit (necessity even), Xnobi comes to respond to the challenge and make the e-mail faster, easier, stress-free, by improving user experience.

Restore your bricked Ipod touch / Iphone

if you ever face any problems with your Ipod touch / Iphone you can easily restore it via iTunes. while jailbreaking it happens often. here is the standard procedure:

(basicalli you are enabling DFU mode and connecting)

1. Power on your ipod/iphone.
2. Press both power and home button and hold for 10 secs( power button is the small button on the top and home button is the big button below the screen ).
3. It will switch it off gracefully.
4. apple logo will be displayed.
5. now leave the power button, but keep holding the home button.
6. itunes connect logo will be displayed.
7. now you can leave the home button too, ipod/iphone is in DFU mode now.
8. connect the USB cable, iTunes will detect it and you are intelligent enough to restore now.

but sometimes this procedure won't work, happened with me when i was changing root password on my jailbroken ipod touch 1.1.4 . It was looping on the main springboard app. reloading every 10 secs. But I somehow discovered a way to restore it from that situation.

here is the procedure:
1. first of all connect USB cable and open ITunes.
2. switch it off gracefully(holding power and home button)
3. power on , as soon as apple logo is displayed press and hold the home button
4. your computer will detect it as a new DFU hardware, and will install it automatically.
5. It will appear in iTunes then, Bingo you are done!!!

contact me if you are unable to unbrick your ipod via this procedure.

Airline Reviews (India)

If you are planning any air travel in near future this may be helpful...

There are a dozen of airlines operating in India, so before booking you always want to know which are good in which regard, and it is not always true that if you are paying more you will get more. Broadly any one look for the following things:

• Comfort
• No-Delays
• In Flight Entertainment
• Cheap(everybody likes his pocket)
• Good Food
• Nice Eye Candies, I mean Air hostesses ;-)
• Blah blah!!

So lets start with high-Cost Airlines,

1) Jet Airways: Good Airlines in almost every aspect, Best in in-flight entertainment, Nice Food , of-course free because you've already paid alot :) . ya one thing bad eye-candies are fully covered. Although you can go for it if you are not paying by your own pocket.

2) Kingfisher: Nice Competitor of Jet Airways in almost every aspect. I can personally give one point less in in-flight entertainment but 10 more for eye-candies. Food is also too good. Definitely go for it if money is not a factor for you.

3) Indian Airlines: I'd highly recommend this airlines if you profusely hate comfort, in-flight entertainment, food, and love delays and wanna fuk your pocket. I hope you get my point So NEVER travel by this airline. I don't want to say anything more for this shit.

And now some low cost ones(No In flight entertainment and No free food)

4) Air Deccan: It is now owned by Kingfisher. A good Low cost airline, Almost No-Delays, Kingfisher kinda eye candies ;-) .yuppe Seats are not reclining so cut out some points from comfort, Yet a good Low cost airline

5) Spice Jet: Travel by this Airline if you really want spices in your asshole. Their time management is worst. They don't care about flight delays. yet it is comfortable. Travel if you don't bother about delays. My experience was mind-blowing, during whole flight I was feeling like somebody is flying plane for the first time.. horrible!!

6) Indigo: Nice low cost airline, I can rate it number one. No delays, most comfortable seats, nice eye candies, yes one thing here too their prices fluctuate with season.

7) Go Air Air Sahara foo bar ..:Coming soon

Couple of International Ones:

KLM(Royal Dutch): Crazy Holland people, one of my flight landed in two different phases first left and after a few secs right one. I don't recommend this airline. Food is also not good. Comfort level is also poor.

British-Airways: Nice Comfortable flight, but they don't care about baggage. baggage delays and breakage is very common. They are more or less never "on time". So This is also not preferred.

Some others too:

Alaska Airlines(North America): Nice Airline in every aspect, very caring air hostesses, nice management, go for it.

Air Lingus(Ireland): Huh! Save me from this airline, I felt like I got hanged for an hour.and Lots of noise. not again!!

Paint my face in your magazines
Make it look whiter than it seems
Paint me over with your dreams
Shove away my ethnicity
Burn every notion that I may have a flame inside to fight
And say just what is on my mind
Without offending your might

Cuz this life is too short to live it just for you
But when you feel so powerless what are you gonna do
So say what you want
Say what you want

I saw her face outside today
Weatherworn, looking all the rage
They took her passion and her gaze and made a poster
Now it¡¦s moccasins we sport
We take the culture and contort
Perhaps only to distort what we are hiding

Cuz this life is too short to live it just for you
But when you feel so powerless what are you gonna do
But say what you want
Say what you want

Hey you, the one outside, are you ever gonna get in, get in
Hey you, the one that don¡¦t fit in, how ya, how ya gonna get in
Hey you, the one outside, are you ever gonna get in with your
Broken teeth, broken jaw, broken mojo
Yeah, this life is too short to live it just for you
But when you feel so powerless, what are you gonna do

Cuz this life is too short to live it just for you
But when you feel so powerless, what are you gonna do

  • Drive in USA with Indian Driving License

One of the most asked question I get to hear is, “Can I drive in USA with my Indian Driving License?

Well, the answer is, “It depends on the state that you would drive in”. All most all states in US allow you to drive with your Indian License for a period of one year. After that, you need to get a US drivers license. However, if you become a resident of the state, then you need to get a US license within a months time.

One more thing that I get asked is about “International Drivers Permit”. Well, to be frank, its quite useless if your Indian Driving License is written in English. The permit basically tells that you have the license to drive back in India in English. So, its the License thats important and not the Permit. In fact, in some states, International Drivers Permit is not even recognized. So, don’t bother getting it. In any case, your Indian Driving License must be valid and active.

A very good way to confirm what the specific state laws are is to search the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) website for the state in question. This site has the links to DMV sites of various states. Or, you can search google for pharse like “Texas DMV” and see if you can get to the official site of DMV. Once you are on the site, you would normally find a “Drivers Handbook” (or equivalent), which has all the official rules and regulations for that specific state.

Even if you don’t plan to buy a car in the US, I would suggest getting a US drivers license for the reasons given below:

    • Your Driving license works as your Identity card too in most of the US states. This helps because, you don’t need to carry your passport and other important documents around all the time. If you dont want to drive or dont know to drive, then most states issue a State ID card - so make sure you get it. Trust me, its very helpful!
    • If you plan to drive in the US (say car rental etc), a valid US driving license helps. It will save you a lot of money on car insurance too.
    • If you do buy a car, then almost all states in the US make it mandatory to have Auto/Car insurance. If you don’t have a valid US drivers license and drive on an Indian license, then your insurance premium will shoot up! (by at-least $400 to $500 or more for 6 months!)

In some states & cities (like in Texas) there is one thing that might force you to drive with an Indian Driving License… and that is the validity of your Work Permit (H1B or equivalent). In Texas, if your work permit expires within in the next six months, the DMV won’t allow you to apply for a US Driving License. So, keep this in mind, and apply six months before your Work Permit expires if possible! However, this is true for Texas (confirmed in Houston), but may not be true at other states.

Oh - Last but not the least, if you are driving in the USA, make sure that you have auto insurance. Its a must and will save you lot of money and headaches in case of any eventualities!

If you are already in the US, I request you to comment below on your states policy on Indian Driving License!
